How it Works

2️⃣ Download and decorate your Tap Guardian mask
3️⃣ Take a photo and tell us how you can be a water hero in 150 words or less
4️⃣ Submit your entry by 23 October 2026 through social media or the entry form below.

If entering via social media, tag @WaterNightOfficial and @TheWaterConservancy and include #WaterNight2026 and #TapPauseLevelUp.

For entrants under 18, the entry must be submitted by a parent or guardian on their behalf. This matches the final entry requirements in your T&Cs.

The most creative Tap Guardians and strongest water hero messages will take out the top prizes.

Water Night is all about celebrating everyday heroes and inspiring others to value water. If your entry is chosen as a winner or runner-up, we'd love to feature your decorated mask and story on our website and social media.

This means we'll need your permission to share your photo and story. By ticking the box below, you confirm that you're happy for us to do this (and if the entrant is under 18, that you're the parent/guardian giving consent).

I confirm that I am the entrant or the parent/guardian of the entrant (if under 18) and consent to this photo and story being used by The Water Conservancy for marketing, social media, and promotional purposes, including if the entry is selected as a winner.

Tap Guardians Competition – FAQ

1. Who can enter?

Anyone in Australia who registers for Water Night 2026 can enter. Kids can join in too, but a parent or guardian must submit on their behalf.

2. Do I need to pay to enter?

No. Entry is completely free. You just need to sign up for Water Night 2026 and submit your decorated Tap Guardian and water hero response.

3. How do I enter?

Sign up for Water Night, download and decorate a Tap Guardian mask or make your own, take a photo and tell us how you can be a water hero and help use water wisely.

You can either post on social media using @WaterNightOfficial, @TheWaterConservancy, #WaterNight2026 and #TapPauseLevelUp, or submit directly through the entry form at waternight.com.au/tapguardians.

For entrants under 18, the entry must be submitted by a parent or guardian.

4. What if my social media account is private?

If your account is private, our team won’t be able to see your post even if you use the hashtags and tags. Please submit your entry through the private entry form at waternight.com.au/tapguardians so we can view and judge your entry.

5. What if I don’t want my child’s face online?

No problem. Our full-face Tap Guardian mask templates can cover the entire face, and entrants can also create their own full-face mask.

For entrants under 18, children’s names or other identifying details will not be published without explicit parental or guardian consent.

6. What should I write for the water hero part?

Tell us how you can be a water hero and help use water wisely.

It could be something you already do at home, a new habit you want to start or an idea for helping others value water.

Keep it to 150 words or less.

7. What if I’m already registered for Water Night — can I still enter the competition?

Yes! If you’ve already registered for Water Night 2026, use the same name and email address when submitting your competition entry so we can verify your registration.

8. Do I have to use the official mask templates?

No. You can use one of our Tap Guardian mask templates or design your own from scratch.

9. Can I enter more than once?

No. Only one entry per person is allowed.

10. What’s the deadline to enter?

Entries open 24 September 2026 at 12:00am AEST and close 23 October 2026 at 11:59pm AEDT.

11. How are winners chosen?

A judging panel will select winners based on:

Creativity & Effort in the Tap Guardian design. 40%
Water Hero Message. How clearly the entrant explains how they can be a water hero and use water wisely. 30%
Presentation & Overall Impact of the entry. 30%
